My mom has an awesome recipe for Whole Wheat Hamburger Rolls that I have adapted so that I can make them in my breadmaker and save tons of time! These rolls are so super yummy that you won't want to buy cheap white hamburger buns again!
Into the Breadmaker goes (in this order)....
1 cup warm water
6 Tbsp oil
2 Tbsp molasses
1/2 Tbsp salt
1 1/2 beaten eggs (Here's how I do this... I beat three eggs together in a separate container and then dump half into the Breadmaker. I eat the rest scrambled up with a little cheese on top while I finish the rolls!)
2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
2 cups Bread Flour (I used All-Purpose and it worked fine.)
1 package Yeast (if you buy yeast in bulk, that's 2 1/4 tsp)
This version of my mom's recipe will make 12 rolls.
After the dough has gone through the "Dough Setting" in the maker, take it out, punch it down and divide it into 3 portions. Let it rest for 5 minutes and then divide each portion into 4 balls.
Turn the ball in your hands, folding edges under to make an even circle. Press the ball flat between hands and place on a greased baking sheet, pressing down to 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Let rise until double (about 30 minutes) in a warm place. And then they will look like this...
Bake at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes.
I don't have a bread maker but this would be easy enough to make "by hand" (meaning using my Kitchen Aid mixer) and then just let the dough rise. Gonna try soon -- I have a recipe I love that is very similar but without the whole wheat flour & molasses. This looks ever-so-much-more-so healthy!
ReplyDeleteMom's recipe is to make by hand and her amounts are all the same--just doubled. If you are going to make it by hand, you may want to take advantage of being able to make twice as many rolls per batch. I had to decrease the volume so it would fit into the breadmaker.
