So easy to make... got the idea
from here. Modified.
Materials:
- 3 bottle caps
- ribbon
- acrylic paint
- permanent marker
- orange scrap paper
- embellishments (if desired)
- hot glue
- optional magnet dots
Paint the bottle caps with several coats of white acrylic paint. Mine took 3+. I also painted the backs of my caps because since it's an ornament, the back may be seen. I decided to ink the edges with a black stamp pad to make them stand out. Then I cut a little free-hand triangle from paper and glued it on as a nose. I used the marker to draw eyes, a mouth and buttons. I used some fluffy string/ribbon and a button to make a scarf for my snowman. Totally up to you on how you want to embellish him/her. My sister came up with the idea that this snowman could also be made into a magnet by putting magnet dots or a magnet strip on the back. Mine hangs from a ribbon loop. I also added some glitter to him to make his "snow sparkle!"
Try it! You'll like it!
it takes some work for create something new but if once done this work then you can produce that thing which will be very cute and beautiful. I really liked it.
ReplyDeleteSorry to be so "craft dense" but how do you hook the bottle caps together? Hot glue?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments! I should have clarified in my post, the bottlecaps are hot glued (you were right!) to the piece of ribbon and it is looped at the top. Just lay the bottlecaps face-down on your table top and then add some glue to each. Run a strip of ribbon along the glue and then loop the top back down again so that the extra makes a place to hang it from!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI saw that you had linked to my bottlecap snowmen and had to come see how yours turned out...your little snowman is SO cute! I love the scarf you added.
Just saw this also - perfect for my grandson!
ReplyDeletehello! great idea. i have one question. i work in a nursing home and need to use another type of glue instead of the hot glue gun. would tacky glue work?
ReplyDeletethanks

What kind of acrylic paint did you use? I'm using, "Cract Smart" Acrylic paint and my caps are not looking as smooth as yours. Are you sure you didn't use spray paint?
ReplyDeleteAre you seeing brush strokes, and that is why you say it is not smooth? What I can suggest is that you buy yourself a very soft-bristled paint brush. If your brush has coarse (or thick/crunchy) bristles, the more prominent your brush strokes will appear on your ornament. Also, when you are applying your coats, apply them thinly (lots of people like to be too generous with the paint, resulting in a goopy mess). Also be sure to allow it to dry before applying your next coat 10 minutes between coats autta do it (the thicker your coats, the longer the drying time). Lastly, when it is completely dry, I would suggest applying a water-based varnish (before adding your embellishments) to add a smooth/glossy finish to your ornament, while protecting the acrylic paint from chipping off.
ReplyDeleteHope this helps you out!!

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I think my paint is smooth because I did have to apply several coats. I also tend to use foam brushes for my craft projects because I like the way it looks.
ReplyDeleteTacky glue should work -- it just won't dry as quickly. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI used tacky glue to adhere my ribbon to the backs of the bottle caps & it worked just fine!
