Best Basic Brownie Recipe

This is the easiest & simplest brownie recipe and works every time.  The resulting brownies are moist but not gooey and just chocolate-y enough without overwhelming you. Add it to your tried & true recipe collection!

You'll need:
  • 3/4 c butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2 t vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c cocoa powder
  • 1/2 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t salt
Mix the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla extract together (it works well to use a microwave-safe bowl to melt the butter in and then mix in the sugar and vanilla).  Add eggs, beating well.  Add flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.  Spread in greased 8" square baking pan or glass baking dish.  (I don't have a square baking pan. I always use my roughly 8"x6" rectangular glass baking dish -- the one in the photo -- and it works great.)

Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes and then check to see if the brownies are done.  Depending on the size of your pan you'll need to bake for a few more minutes but watch carefully and don't over-bake!  The brownies are done when they don't jiggle around if you shake the pan back and forth...  or if you touch the top with your finger and it resists a bit...  or just BEFORE they begin to pull away from the sides of the pan.  You'll figure it out.  Worst case: you have to make lots of pans of brownies in order to figure it out.  :-)
