How do you celebrate Labor Day?

Labor Day often passes unnoticed in our home, except for the fact that we get a "random day off " right after starting school and it completely throws off the kids' new routines!!! This year on our day off I'd like to do something different... I would like to explain to the kids about why work is a necessary part of life that blesses our family!

Somtimes it seems like maybe work was a curse given to us in the fall, but remember: God gave Adam jobs to do in the Garden before he and Eve ever met the serpent...

Genesis 2 says,
15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it...
19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

Work was a gift from God, meant to be enjoyed!
Before Labor Day: Read passages about work or write verses down and put them up around your house as a reminder! Genesis 2, Exodus 20:9-10, Numbers 4, Deut. 15:10 and 30:9 (I know there are more... I will be back to list some others!)

On Labor Day: Visit Mommy or Daddy's work--take a tour or watch him/her do a task. Maybe eat lunch together. That evening discuss the work that is done around the home as each family member contributes and shares responsibilities. Talk about what other family members do for a living; grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins. Maybe someone in your family's history had a very important or unique job. Look at pictures if they are available.
This is also a great time to kickoff my new plan for chores for the children throughout the school year.

What are you going to do this Labor Day???
