Cream of Whatever Soup - No Thanks.

Have you ever read the label on a "can of cream of ___________ soup" ???

Here is an example of what you might find: vegetable oil, modified food starch, wheat flour, salt, dried whey, margarine, beta carotene for color, MSG, soy protein concentrate, yeast, flavoring, etc.
While some of those things are okay with me, some are not! That's why I did a little bit of research and found this...

Check out the ingredients in this amazing "S.O.S. Mix" (Soup or Sauce)

You will need:
  • 2 cups powdered milk
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup instant chicken bouillon
  • 2 Tbsp dried onion flakes
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
Combine and mix all of the above ingredients. This will make the equivalent to 9 (10.5 oz) cans of creamed soup.

To make the soup, take 1/3 cup of your mix and whisk it with 1 1/4 cups cold water. Cook on the stovetop until thickened. Substitute this for 1 can of creamed soup in your recipes!!!

Let me know what you think. What recipes will you try this in?

Thanks so much for this, Natta. For years now I've steered away from cream of "you name it" and recipes containing said ingredient. I just didn't want the msg and other components in my family's diet. I've found recipes for a substitution but they've been so complicated. This one looks like a good substitute. I'll give this one a try!
