You are Special and You are Known by Name

"Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing." Isaiah 40:25-27

We have our children's names written on their walls as a way to remind them of their special place in this family and in the eyes of God.

I recently redid Caleb's to match his brother's now that they share a bedroom.

I have used wooden letters in the past, but my sister gave me some chipboard letters to use this time.

I chose papers from the same pack so that I knew they would match each other. When I did the names in wood, all I did was sand the letters down and paint them.
I put the letter down on my paper to figure out what part of the paper I wanted to show up on the letter. Then I traced around them with a pencil and cut them out. I realized that I probably could have used an exacto knife and a mat to cut, but either way works fine. If I made a mistake in cutting it didn't matter because of the next few steps...
I glued the paper down to the letter with whatever adhesive I had on hand and then I took some sandpaper (or a distresser) and went all around the edges. This basically molds the paper to the edge of the chipboard in case there were any pieces hanging over the edge or areas that didn't line up quite right.
Then I inked the edges of the letter with a matching color. This helped me to cover up any exposed chipboard and just made it generally look more "finished."
I decorated with ribbons and shapes that I punched out and buttons and hemp, etc. Just whatever I felt like on each letter. I repeated some of the materials on other letters but tried not to use the same thing twice in a row. So the "C" had buttons and blue ribbon, but I didn't use the exact same buttons and ribbon on the "A."
Once I had all the letters done, I hung them above the window with some sticky-tacky! I think they look great up there! Caleb sleeps on the top bunk right next to the window so his name is right by his head at night.
Here are Benjamin's and Mikaela's names as well. Ben's hangs above the closet on the opposite side of the room from Caleb's. Mikaela's is done with wooden letters. I am not quite finished with hers. I am going to do some more with the butterfly, etc. Maybe paint a little bit directly on the wall around her name... we'll see...

Soledad,
Yay! I am so glad you like it! The butterfly is a wooden cutout you can find at Michael's. I just painted it with acrylic paints (also available at Michael's). I drilled two holes in the "head" with a very small drill bit and then wrapped some craft wire around a pencil to make the curls, stuck them in the drilled holes with glue! That made the antennae. Let me know how it turns out if you give it a try!!! :)
